In looking at my blogs stats, searches on religion and taxes have been causing me to get the most hits. Lately I have been getting a lot of hits based on my experience that I wrote about here concerning JK Harris and some problems I had with the IRS. In that post I included a link to www.oicsettlement.com, which, as I understood it, allowed people with a complaint to JK Harris that contacted them before March 31, 2005 to enter a class action suit (assuming they hadn’t privately sued JK Harris previously).
For whatever reason, the link to the oicsettlement now requires a password to view it. This could be because they were getting too many people trying to join in, I don’t really know. I even thought about it when I posted their site that it could effect the amount of money I get back, in that the settlement is a specific amount, but the amount I got back didn’t really concern me, as my case has been settled (not by JK Harris) and anything I get back is just extra money. And I was more concerned that there were others out there like myself, that got in a bind and was wondering if they were ever going to get out, and then got strung along by JK Harris or another company like them. For the record, do a google search on “JK Harris complaints” and see the list you get. I am not alone by any means. And if I referred another 50-60 people over to the settlement page and helped them I am glad. I just hope they get their problems with the IRS solved, which is the most important.
Hopefully there is no problem with the me advertising the oicsettlement page. I don’t see how there could be as it was printed in numerous newspapers in April, both in print and online. Not to mention on the actual Class Action Settlement form it says you can get info and a copy of the forms at their website. If in a day or two I do not find any issues with it, and it seems people are still hitting my JK Harris pages, I will see if I can scan in a blank settlement form and post it somewhere for download.
One other thing to note, my original post I had posted that the cutoff date was May 25, 2007 to get you paperwork turned in. This is actually the wrong date. The correct date is July 31, 2007. The May 25 date is if you wanted to make an appearance or objection.
Edit to Add: Since the original post the www.oicsettlement.com page has went back up.

January 31, 2008 at 8:27 am
When you go to http://www.oicsettlement.com, you get an error saying “Website No Longer Available”.
January 31, 2008 at 9:56 am
That is probably because the deadline was in July of 2007. I know I did get contacted back in November and they verified my information. I doubt I am going to get much back, I had found a couple of websites estimated that each person was going to get like $70 back, which is a bit disappointing if true. Yet when I talked to oicsettlement on the phone it seemed as if I was going to get much more.
I will post a follow up when I finally get some money back.
February 13, 2008 at 10:06 pm
I wouldn’t hold your breath waiting for any money. I was also contacted a few months ago after getting no response from the judge or the clerks office in South Carolina where the final judgment was signed ordering JK Harris to deposit $500K immediately and start making restitution. Of course it is now on appeal, all the while he continues to advertise and scam new unsuspecting victims.
February 19, 2008 at 2:18 pm
Does anyone have a phone number???
Serious – I could have files for a full refund and received that faster then this. JKHarris can bite me. I want back every penny they charged me and I want them to go out of business.

Rayne, a phone # to the oicsettlement? Did you send in your paperwork?
I was told when I filed it would be about the summer of 2008 before I would see anything. But if you look at articles online and at what Tom Cave has said above it could go on even longer.
I, much like you was taken advantage of when I was most vulnerable and paid JK Harris $4000 and got nothing done. I ended up having to pay a local attorney and a local CPA another $4000, but they did get my mess settled, although I did still have to pay $25,000 to the IRS (with penalties and interest I owed them more than $50,000 on an original $15,000 debt, sucks huh)
I have kind of given up hope on a settlement check. If someday I get some sort of refund check then that is a just a gift. The main thing is to get your IRS debt settled, and I have found it is best to go to a local attorney or specialist rather than one of the national ones that advertise on TV or send you their ads once your levy/lein is made public (amazing how much stuff you start getting after you are already in big trouble), as at least then you can show up at the local office and know what the hell is going on.
February 22, 2008 at 8:56 am
I am having trouble finding information on the settlement. The toll free number no longer exist.
February 22, 2008 at 9:17 am
Looks like the Judge might have our part of the settlement.
February 22, 2008 at 9:58 am
Sandra did you file also? I am going to look for my confirmation paperwork this weekend, there was a phone number on there that did work (wasn’t toll free) as I talked to someone back in Oct or Nov of last year.
February 25, 2008 at 6:36 am
Yes, I filed back in July of last year. I also had talked with an administrator that confimed my paperwork because at the time, I moved and had to change my address. I paid JK Harris 4500 to make a settlement and like most of us, they did nothing. I had to retire early from my job so that I could come up with the money that I owed IRS. I don’t know what has happened to the settlement, but I had hopes that I would get something out of the settlement. JK Harris is one of the biggest RIP OFFS that I’ve ever seen or been involved with. I and others got a good screw and wasn’t laying down and surely didn’t enjoy. I hope something good come out of this for all of us, but we have to remember too…..they used to work for the IRS.
February 27, 2008 at 5:32 pm
Is there a number to call? The toll free is no longer working. I haven’t received any word on my claim.
March 1, 2008 at 1:16 pm
I also filed in July, 07. Got a form letter back dated Sept. 28/07 with the figures that I had originally reported in the class action suit. I did not need to send any backup documtation as is was not needed on my part. Havent heard anything since, Have you????
March 4, 2008 at 6:19 pm
We too are waiting. Having been notified several moths ago we found out we could expect to know more by the middle of 2008. As of tonight, march 4 2008 the website is not accesible nor is the 800 number valid. I doubt they could abandon us but where do we turn to get updates?
March 6, 2008 at 4:51 pm
I have called the 800 # and the website, to no avail. I am writing the settlement administrator next. J.K.Harris Settlement Administrator P.O.Box 1877, Faribault, MN 55021. I think everyone involved should write them, and request our funds. I paid them 2750, and I got no service at all, just an initial interview. I have request a refund of my fees from J.K.Harris for more than two years. With no response.
We may have to sue the Administrator!!!!!
March 10, 2008 at 5:25 pm
Hi all, I have been extremely busy but I have no problem with everyone discussing our common situation here as it seems google and other search engines lead everyone here.
I am in the same situation as most of you commenting. I know I had a number that wasn’t toll free from the oicsettlement group but that may have been from a caller ID long ago erased as they called me to verify information and I called back. This was back in the fall of last year. The paperwork sent to me had the 1 800 # that doesn’t work anymore. I am thinking I called the regular number as it was on my phone but I could be wrong. If that is the case I may have it on a phone bill. I wouldn’t be surprised however if the attorneys just set up a call center until July to get everyone’s paperwork in. It is surprising the website is down though, you would think they would put an update or something there and that bothers me.
March 12, 2008 at 11:47 am
Hi, I too am having the same problems. I called the IRS today, and they think the 800 number is still working and was surprised to hear the web site is gone!!
They have told me that I have to do this all over again with them (The IRS). And that I was studip to beleive JK Harris was going to do that they said. So I starting all over, BROKE! What is everyone else doing to get on track with the IRS????
March 15, 2008 at 2:29 pm
In the same boat, need to review my paperwork as well. My thininking at the time was I would be getting my refund for the full amount. Need to re-read the correspondence that would allow me to reach that conclusion versus the 2 cents on the dollar we all may receive. Would not have agreed to participate if it was less than something more significant (i.e. $1000).
I like Keven’s note, though my letter will come in a box that will not fit into the typical PO Box, causing some one to manually deal with it. What ever the largest box that the Postal Service will allow, that will get things going!
Wish that there was a full disclosure of JK Harris financials to determine if that is all they could afford or its something like a small decrease in management bonus pay.
Great idea Keven. The rest of you keep it up, I just paid off the IRS, after 3 long years.
March 31, 2008 at 10:47 am
I haven’t heard anything from anyone about the lawsuit. Last year I did make a call or two to the toll free number they provided to check on the status, but that was it. The website or phone number is no longer in service. What concerns me is I forward them my personal information (social security number) and I’m beginning to wonder if this whole lawsuit was a hoax. Does anyone have any info. on this? This was wrong for them to not at least have a website. I tried contacting one of the attorneys involved in the lawsuit and he never responded back to me.
April 2, 2008 at 9:43 pm
I havent heard anything about the lawsuit.all I want is my share. does anyone have any info onthe lawsuit?
April 23, 2008 at 10:27 am
My question is regarding the toll free number we suppose can contact. It’s no longer in service and the web page neither. From whom can we have aswers about the process against JK HARRIS and the refunds?
April 24, 2008 at 3:20 pm
Yes, I also learned today the website and 800 number are both shut down. Does anyone here know who I can call to get the status on my claim payment? I am at: kcoffee@cox.net
thank you!
April 25, 2008 at 11:00 am
Hello again!
I learned something new this morning regarding the case.
I telephoned Mario A. Pacella’ s receptionist at Strom Law Firm, LLC in Columbia, SC. Apparently, Mr. Pacella is the “Coordinating Class Counsel” on this case.
The receptionist told me that no checks would be sent out until sometime in January, 2009.
The Strom Law Firm telphone number is: (803) 252-4800.
Maybe if enough of us repeatedly call their office it will send a message that we expect to be paid (on time) as claimants in the case.
Please give me your feedback on this!
Kerry

We all can expect payment January 2009… call (803) 252-4800
May 11, 2008 at 1:14 pm
So far this is the best news we have seen. Any idea of the kind of sum they are talking about per client?
May 27, 2008 at 2:28 pm
thanks to all for the information. With the website down and disconnected phone was getting angry. Still angry that we have to hunt and scavenge for the information concerning the class-action, instead of the Administrator keeping us informed. Thanks to all for digging up the info. Calling all the class- action lawyers. Time to get some truthful and real answers, instead of silent and slick manevers.
June 2, 2008 at 9:16 pm
I,like all of you paid JK Harris for NOTHING!$1300 for me a single mom with 2 kids. They did not hesitate to take the pymts from my account but never provided any assistance for me. I had not followed up on the settlement until now but decided to see where things stood. Thanks to all for the information provided here as I was getting the run around on all contact numbers and web sites that I had. It sounds like we will have to wait until Jan 09 to see if we will get any compensation from the 6 mill that was paid.
June 5, 2008 at 5:49 am
I gave jk 4000 $ it really would have been better to hire a lawyer and sue them yourself,,basicly we lined the pockets of the lawyers and really screwed ourselves!!! Never do a class action,,,just lawyers sniffin out the dog food!!
June 12, 2008 at 10:24 am
Another JK Harris screw-ee here…I got the royal runaround from them bouncing from one case worker to another with lost faxes and bullsh1t stories until I was up against the wall with IRS and went to attorney to file Ch 7. I ended up naming JK Harris as one of my creditors and they flipped when I told them that. Fortunately for me I was only taken for about $700 and not the full contract amount. I filed my paperwork on time last year and have heard nothing. If the $ comes in Jan. 2009 then it’ll be nice, but not holding breath.
June 24, 2008 at 6:17 pm
On 7-5-01 I hired J.K.Harris to settle my O.I.C. i the same as everybody else got the run around. They required 50% down ($1750.00) and the rest within 30 days. this was my last hope to clear up problems from when i was 18 – 21 years of age. after giving up tax info for 5 years, i still had no results. i finally had my wifes friend, who just files taxes for a living complete my needs on the O.I.C. I have been recieving paperwork about the class action suite since 5/07. i have sent all the information requested and have yet to hear anything from anybody. i tried to go to the http://www.oicsettlement.com and it comes back site not found. I just happen to stumble across this site. this is a cry for information, please e-mail me at jimbeck13@comcast.net. please do not send e-mails for this info after 7-4-08. Thanks for your help in advance!!
July 1, 2008 at 10:45 am
Didn’t realize this many had gotten screwed by J K Harris too! thanks for some of the information above. I had been searching internet for anything information concerning the settlement. Last I heard we should get some kind of checks summer 2008, that’s here and hadn’t heard a word! Like most of you really need the money I put in back at least!
July 11, 2008 at 8:02 am
An offer in compromise is not the right solution to a tax problem for everyone. Really it’s not right for most taxpayers in trouble with the IRS. There are other options available that may be better, and can still save you pennies on the dollar. Attorney Darrin Mish promotes an analysis of a taxpayer’s situation that will support the BEST possible solution to a taxpayer’s problem. Every taxpayer’s situation is unique, don’t be fooled, each situation has enough variances to make an analysis well worth the time and money.
August 3, 2008 at 9:43 pm
Hey Guys – the website is http://WWW.oic.com i was able to pull it up. The law frim that is handling the case is:Storm Law Firm. They number is 803-252-4800. I have spoken with them several times and the checks will not be mail out until January 2009.
August 4, 2008 at 11:01 am
Kathy, that website is definitely not the oic settlement group.
Rick, it seems you may be doing some advertising, but I approved your post. The main reason is I do believe people that google search and get let here do need to find a solution to their problem. As I have stated in my posts, I ended up using a local attorney and CPA, and that is what I personally would recommend, as they seem to have more accountabilty when you can actually show up at their office to find out what is going on.
August 22, 2008 at 1:42 pm
Does anyone know how to contact the Settlement Administrator? As others have stated the website says “page not found” and the phone number on the correspondance I received is also not valid!
I filed all the correct documents well before the deadline & have heard nothing!
Does anyone have any additional info?
August 25, 2008 at 4:37 pm
Another screw-ee here. 800 # none existent. IRS tells me they know nothing as of 8-25-2008 but, couple weeks prior, they told me I would get a letter in the mail. They would not respond to any ???’s that I asked. Refused to let me speak with a suporvisor, and that I can’t charge them with a fine, penalty or fees—–go figure. Will try writing the Settlement Administrator and get back to you all.
August 28, 2008 at 1:05 am
This is the first time I tried to find out anything about the lawsuit. Yeh, good ole J. K. Harris stuck it to me also, to the tune of $2000. As a result, not having any money and making low income wages, I had to go to the I.R.S. directly and set up a payment plan. My wife has become disabled and cannot work. I’ll be paying the feds an extra $100 a month probably for the rest of my life. I hope John Harris burns in Hell the rest of his life!
September 7, 2008 at 8:24 am
Once JK Harris received their fee from me of 3750,I was never able to reach anyone again.A couple of times they would call me wanting certain infomation, and to call them back. When I would try to return the call they would never answer. This is a B.S. company, they just played a game with you.I would like to have my money back, they did nothing for me.I too have heard nothing back on the settlement?????
October 24, 2008 at 3:18 pm
DOES ANYONE KNOW HOW MUCH THE SETTLEMENT WILL BE FOR?SEVENTY DOLLARS DONT SEEM MUCH COMPARED TO THE THOUSANDS WE LOST!
November 6, 2008 at 7:36 am
HEY OUT THERE!
I was able to speak directly to the Attorney who settled the JK Harris dispute!
It was settled and payments begin in JANUARY 2009.
The number I have as contact is 1-800-999-7940.
November 6, 2008 at 7:49 am
I found my info thru the Charleston News. I happened on a front page story abount how JK Harris had settled the class action suit . The mans name is Mr. Buettner.
If the 800# is not avail. try: 866-903-1201!!!
November 15, 2008 at 4:38 pm
I think that JK Harris sould pay intersted an penitly to the IRS. for me because they put in debt with the IRS.An I also think that the IRS should have already step in close JK Harris down. LOOK”S to me JK Harris an IRS in K-HOOT’S. I started out owning $7,000. my balance with the IRS is now 58,000 as of Nov 2008. I just want my money back an JK Harris to be shut down,
November 22, 2008 at 11:46 pm
J K Harris and the IRS is in this to together, I think the goverment such step in and do something about this b.s. I got a little saying my poor dead mother said. son trust know one like goverment, an IRS. because they’re the big’s CROOK’s LIKE ATTORNEY!
January 12, 2009 at 11:14 pm
I made a call to JK Harris Settlement Jan 5, 09; was informed checks would be mail the EOJ 09. Have anyone heard that or made contact?
January 13, 2009 at 3:08 pm
I had not contacted them, but had heard previously that it would be early 2009.
Hopefully it is true, and we all at least get something back. I am not too optimistic that I am going to get my full $3500+ back though. We should all know soon and if anyone gets anything please keep us posted.
January 19, 2009 at 12:06 pm
Ca. Dep. Atty. Gen, told me in Jan 2009 that the person in charge of disbursement was waiting on 2 states to submit all claims, and then we will? get a few meager sheckles each.
Thank GOD the Atty Gen’s took action, however, JK Harris should not be in business. Bad , but common business ethics.
January 27, 2009 at 10:15 am
I was referred to another number and contacted them at (866)903-1201. She said payments won’t go out until February 2009.
January 28, 2009 at 10:30 am
i cannot believe the state of s.c. allows such a crook as jkharris to stay in buisness! is he greassing their palms?
February 3, 2009 at 11:21 am
JUST TALKED TO SOMEONE AT A NUMBER 1-866-903-1201 SHE SAID A CHECK WOULD BE MAILED WITH A LETTER EXPLAINING THE SETTLEMENT ON FEB.13TH AND WOULD RECEIVE MORE CHECKS THERE AFTER.THE FEB. 13TH CHECK IS JUST ONE OF A FEW.HOPEFULLY ITS BECAUSE THERES NOT ENOUGH MONEY IN THEIR BANK TO COVER SUCH LARGE CHECKS BUT IM SURE ITS TO MAKE US THINK WERE GETTING LUCKY BECAUSE WERE GETTING SEVERAL.WHO KNOWS?JUST SHOW ME THE MONEY.
February 3, 2009 at 12:16 pm
I just spoke with someone at the lawsuit administrators numer, 1-866-903-1201, and was told the disbursement checks would be sent out on February 13, 2009. He stated, however, that they had no information on any check amounts.
February 3, 2009 at 5:52 pm
Wasnt the settlement structured to be paid out in installments?
h
February 4, 2009 at 10:03 pm
FROM MORE WEB SEARCHING IT LOOKS LIKE FROM THE AMOUNT THAT WAS AWARDED TO BE PAID OUT TO CLIENTS DUE TO THE NUMBER OF CLIENTS AND THE LAWERS CHUNCK WE ARE GOING TO GET ABOUT 70.00 DOLLARS. DONT KNOW IF THAT IS THE TOTAL PER INSTALLMENT CHECK OR THE ENTIRE TOTAL.JUST THINK OF ALL WE OWE THE IRS AND WHAT WE PAID JK HARRIS.SEVENTY TO TWO-HUNDRED EIGHTY DOLLARS WILL ALMOST KNOCK THAT COST OUT!THANK YOU JK HARRIS FOR ALL YOU DO!WHAT A JOKE.
February 8, 2009 at 1:08 pm
I am unable to locate any information from this case. When I call the number they say check next month. Where are you getting your information? PLEASE HELP!!!!!!
February 10, 2009 at 10:26 am
Dont spend it yet, the checks probably will go out Feb 13, to each State Atty. Gen, then they will forward to each approved complainant.
JK got me for $2,640.00. Good luck everyone, I hope we all learned a lesson.
February 10, 2009 at 1:10 pm
I called Saturday, and spoke to someone, we all should be getting a letter explaining what is going on this week, and a check should be issued, ofcourse he couldn’t tell me how much. They got me for 2,750.00 and I didn’t even get a rape kit!!!!!!!!!
February 15, 2009 at 1:37 pm
Great News!!! We received our first Pro-Rata settlement check Valentine’s day. WE are extatic!!! $11.91 with annual payments expected in 2010, 2011, and 2012. To think we only gave J.K. %#$@&*((^%& $2500. When its all said and done in 3 years we will have received about $50. How’s that for a settlement?
This is no joke. After the Attorneys get their $2 Mil we all get enough to dine at McDonalds once a year.
February 16, 2009 at 11:21 am
Yeah, I got my check for $13.95 in the mail today!!! I paid these guys about $2750! I just don;t know what I am going to do with all of this money!
February 17, 2009 at 2:02 pm
Well we got our check today Feb.17th .We got a check for $7.26.Barely enough to put in the gas tank to get to the bank. Those people really messed up alot of peoples lives.
February 18, 2009 at 10:39 am
Looks like I am the winner so far, I got $20.34. Unfortunately that’s the way it goes in a class action suit I suppose. I was optimistic when I first heard the about the settlement but I should know better.
It just shows how many people got hosed. The oicsettlement.com page is up again, and I noticed in my stats of this now defunct blog I have had over 500 hits in the past couple of days. I imagine a lot of people getting excited at first seeing they get a check and then opening and finding out it is chump change compared to the thousands we spent on JK Harris, not to mention the extra interest and penalties that add up while waiting another 12-18 months for JK Harris to not solve our tax issues.
February 18, 2009 at 11:41 am
Makes me wonder if the judges who signed off on this “settlement” settled for some cash under the table. I lost over $2,000.00 to JK Harris … and just got my first check for $11.62. Makes my head spin to think how crooked the lawyers and judges are who handled this case.
February 18, 2009 at 2:40 pm
With reading everyone elses stories, I had the same issue. Paid them $5000.00 and problem never was resolved for me, meanwhile Penalties & Intrest were just accumilating. I just received my first of three checks and it was a whopping $12.20. Makes me wonder what the next three checks will look like.
February 18, 2009 at 6:29 pm
HEY I GOT EVERYBODY BEAT I GOT MY CHECK AND IT WAS A TOTAL OF 31.96.SO HEY DINNER IS ON ME BUT IT IS GONNA HAVE TO BE OFF THE DOLLAR MENU.IM SURE THE NEXT CHECK WILL HAVE TO BE DELIVERED BY WELLS FARGO AND REQUIRE TWO SIGNATURES.THANKS AGAIN JK HARRIS NOW WERE EVEN.WHATEVER!!!
February 19, 2009 at 1:02 am
I rec’d $7.00, on 2-17-2009. I am angry and insulted. This is a slay in the face. I am sending copies of my $7.00 check to my Congressmen, Senators, Atty General in Texas and Fl. I paid $1,400 and JK Harris never contacted IRS. JK Harris is laughing and making their deposits in foreign banks. This company must go out of business, however, I am sure they will get what due to them. The next check will probably be $5 and will cost more to process, what it’s worth……
February 19, 2009 at 12:37 pm
Haven’t rec’d a check yet, but reading the above,I wonder what the $$ amounts were allocated to the various lawyers for legal fees.
Out of the 1.5 million, I hope to be able to feast at Carl Jr.’s, burger fries and a malt?
………..
February 20, 2009 at 5:59 pm
Hey everyone send a copie of your check to your Att. General office demanding JK Harris be shut down..
February 20, 2009 at 7:11 pm
Well, looks like I am the winner…my check was for $23.13–it’s like a spit in the face. If I had known that this was all I was going to get, I would have said, let them go bankrupt and I will take nothing, it would have been less insulting to know JKH was screwed, too!
February 21, 2009 at 2:37 pm
I received a check for $25.74!! Could not believe it. I though that, at the least, it would be in the hundreds. I cannot believe these people. Sending in a copy to the state AG sounds like a start. I paid JK Harris $4400.00 and they did nothing but got our paychecks garnished without notice and sent a red flag to the IRS and FTB about us. Well, good luck to all of us. I so wish these jokers were out of business but they still advertise on TV. If they were out of business, that would be some consolation.
February 24, 2009 at 9:17 am
The settlement was to be distributed to the victims of jkharris AFTER ADMINISTRATIVE FEES, LEGAL FEES, ECT.
Reading the above I am reminded of seeing hogs fed, squealing with delight, pushing each other, submersing their snouts up to the eyes. Like lawyers with a pile of money to dig into. We have been twice serviced. (like a farmer has a bull service his cows)
Be thankful they didn’t bill the victims for additional fees……
February 27, 2009 at 11:28 am
Hello Everyone!
In addition to e-mailing your State Attorney General concerning our “settlement” amounts, I also e-mailed the Editor of the Charleston Post newspaper and voiced my complaint. The newspaper’s website has on it a means to write to the Editor.
March 2, 2009 at 11:51 am
kerry,
Where did you write to? Can you provide us with the address?
I think we should all write our concerns and compaints about this whole situation!! It’s really bull crap…You mean to tell me JK harris paid the settlement account millions and we received less than $30 freaking bucks! That’s just ridiculous!
March 6, 2009 at 10:42 am
Everyone,
I heard back from Texas Atty General, the office forwarded my info to Consumer Protection Division(CPD) who monitor business practices and determines priorities enforcement. Also, said the Minnesota State Bar Association is the agent with authority to regulate Attorneys in Minnesota and can be reached at: The Minnesota State Bar Asso., 600 Nicollet Mall #380, Minneapolis, MS 55402, (612) 333-1183. I am sending a copie to Minnesota State Bar Assoc. The Attorneys made Billions as well as JKH by ripping off their clients giving out fake info…

Is this blog site still up and running? I had forgotten about this JK Harris/OIC lawsuit (had cancer/harsh treatment/moved alot/doing great now).
Any news?
